Ok. It’s official! After the spell of unpredictable weather that was seen throughout March, summertime has finally arrived. The familiar whir of our ceiling fans is back!
Walk around the city and notice the ACs and Coolers for Rent flyers stuck on walls and doors everywhere! Switch on the television and there’ll be a surge of ads with Bollywood stars telling you that you need to gear up with X fan or Y AC, eat A brand of ice-cream with a chilled serving of B soft drink; some may even suggest desert coolers and even talcum powders. This charm will probably continue till around October, so the only wise words are: Prepare yourself for it!
Getting back to the point, it is of utmost importance that one should stay hydrated and enjoy a light yet balanced diet through the summer months. Why you should ask? Because it is just around the corner that we will experience a soar in temperatures, face the infamous Loo winds and there’s a strong chance of dehydration or indigestion.

So, here are a few golden rules that you just have to follow to have a happy and safe summer:
Water is your best friend. Drink 8 to 10 glasses of water daily. (It is time that you can enjoy chilled water again) Not only is staying hydrated vital for digestion and health, it also protects your skin against the heat.
This is the season of to indulge in Curd and Lassi. So try and have them with your meals. Not only do they taste great, but also balance your digestion in the summer month and make you feel light!
Try out in smoothies, juices and shakes! Mangoes, strawberries, water melons, pineapples…the list can go on and on. Not only do they provide you with nutrition to stay healthy in the summer, they are also great at keeping you hydrated!
Eat light. Try and eat a lot of fresh fruits, salads and light meals through the summer. Deep-fried, oily, heavy food may make you feel queasy and heavy and also give you digestion problems. It may also cause skin troubles like pimples and boils. Why take a risk when the weather is clearly not in favour of such food?
Avoid eating food or consuming shakes and juices from street vendors. The ingredients are usually exposed to dust, insects and may be contaminated otherwise, which makes it unhealthy and disease prone.
Exercise! Go to your local swimming pool and put in a few refreshing laps or go for an early morning walk or run. If you are a gym person, then anytime is good time. Exercise helps you build strength and immunity. It also helps beat stress (which may be a result of the heat) and helps detoxifies your body. This way you’ll keep fit through the summers.
That being said, there are a few facts of summer that we just cannot ignore. It’s the hot-direct sunlight and dust which is seemingly everywhere! If you drive or take local transportation, you will be facing both the elements. So, keep a few essential products that you should keep in handy at all times during summers. They are guaranteed to keep you protected, presentable and fresh!
When you step out in the summer sun, you should take extra care to protect you’re the exposed skin from the harmful UVA/UVB rays. An increasing number of skin cancer cases are reported because of the lack of care against the harmful UVA/UVB rays of the sun. In case you have to head out, consider Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer SPF50+. Currently, one of the best sunscreen lotions in India its neutral blend makes it ideal for dry and normal skin. It also doesn’t leave your skin feeling oily after application; which is another added benefit. Keep it with you whenever you have to face the sun!
Much like many TV advertisements have shown of late, the unexposed skin often gets ignored when it comes to lathering up before heading outdoors in the summer time. Often the dry heat leaved the skin irritable and itchy. To avoid this applying moisturizer is an excellent daily remedy. Himalaya’s Nourishing Body Lotion is mild and contains the goodness of aloe vera, apricot and wheat. Overall, it gives a thorough nourish and doesn’t leave you with a sticky layer after application.
More often than not, people seem to turn to lip balms or petroleum jelly for lip care only in the winters. Direct heat and sun can cause the lips to become dry, cracked and may even lead to black lips. If one accounts for the presentation and aesthetics, it leaves you un-presentable. Himalaya’s Natural Sun Protection Lip Balm is an easy-to-carry stick and the sunflower oil and grape seed formula protects your lips from UVA/UVB rays. The better part yet is that it is a unisex product.
The important part is that you stay healthy, stay safe and protected and enjoy the summers to the hilt.
