“We Travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us.”
Away from the humdrum and hustles of life, one day after being pissed off from work, I urged for some tranquility. After scrolling the mind for couple of hours, I found that I should relax and philosophize. Of course, travelling could provide me the chance of exploring the same. Doubts, worries and fear lurk in the back of my mind but I tried my best to be optimistic and remind myself that this is the life I want. Then guess what, I backpacked and rolled to travel the world.
After being in the beautiful places and experiencing the unknown, ‘something for the first time’, I understood the true meaning of my life. Now, I feel that over the years, travel has helped me become an enthusiastic person. I have learned lessons that I don’t think would have taken hold in me if I hadn’t travelled.
Today, when my dear ones feel that they are stuck in the middle of dull and dark, I suggest them not to throw money into the bars and get drunk, rather grow up and rush for a safari. This is because traveling has given meaning to my life and taught me lessons I have learned hopping around the wonderful places.
Here are the 10 unforgettable lessons travelling can teach you:
One can make Money anytime in life but not memories
“The life you have led doesn’t need to be the only life you have.”
From the school time we were being pushed to work so as to be a topper, to opt best college and ultimately to grasp a high paid job. But at the end of the day, you will be left with hefty money, nothing else. Money can’t grant you beautiful memories and can never solve your problems but travelling can. Travelling with friends, family or even alone can makes you familiar with tons of different things that you can’t learn during making money. So, live your dreams, explore the world and create memories to last a lifetime.
People are same all across the Globe
“To travel is to discover that everyone is wrong about other countries.”
Sitting at home arouses hundred questions in our mind about the people living in different parts of the country or abroad. We, in our mind, create enormous images of people according to our beliefs. These images, most of the times are hazy and negative as we associate them with one’s religion, caste, creed or colour. But once you step into other community, you will surely realize that everyone just wants love, care, security, enjoyment and hopes for a better future and have the same basic desires.
You got to Know about Different Cultures
We travel, some of us forever, to seek other places, other lives, other souls.
Obviously, when you get into other place, you learn about their culture and traditions. One can adopt the things that are impressive, beneficial for one self. The greatest culture in the world is to respect and value all other cultures. Each culture has its treasures. So, dig them up and enjoy them.
You enjoy human relationships
“The more I traveled the more I realized that fear makes strangers of people who should be friends.”
Some relationships are made by God and some are those that we create. While travelling, your journey lets you mingle with many people. The interaction and exchange of thoughts, beliefs, and emotions creates anonymous relationships. This is what we call human relationship and is supreme of all the relations.
Complain Less and Be Grateful
It is human nature to rumble about things. But when we travel, we are able to refute such things easily and can develop an attitude of gratitude. After visiting few places you will actually become more excited and thankful about life than you ever were.
Boosts your Confidence
Travelling can instill a new level of confidence in you. When you travel, you have to manage so many things on your own from booking accommodation to deciding where to eat and lots of other things that you do independently. There is a sense of achievement that you have explored a destination on your own and that’s a big deal.
Live in the Moment and Cherish Life
“Travel for long enough and one day you wake up to realize: This is no longer a vacation, it's your life.”
Walking in a new, unexplored place incites excitement, making it nearly impossible to worry about the future or regret about the past. It teaches you to live every second of your life instead of dwelling on things that are out of your control. Travelling makes you understand the different ways of life and also that “You are here not to make a living but to make a Life”.
“To awaken alone in a strange town is one of the pleasantest sensations in the world.”
When you stay alone most of the time, you hear your soul a lot more. You will observe aspects of yourself that you had ignored or not even noticed. It sharpens the importance of digging deeper into inner thoughts, habits and reactions to life.
Patience is a characteristic that is almost vanished in human beings. Whether it is success, money, the ‘perfect’ body or relationships, there is urgency in our society to scrap patience and rush through life. When you travel you feel committed to yourself to being open to whatever happen is meant to be, then patience grew. You will be able to learn the importance of patience and put it to practice.
Valuing little things
Travelling will definitely open your eyes to small, ordinary things of life- things that are undervalued, but have great significance. You will have a deeper sense of respect for them.
So that was my epode of travelling. But that’s not all. I am sure that there is much more that I have learnt.
