With the vast ocean of knowledge available for you online, there always hovers a danger for your online security. No matter how good and expensive an online security software you use, there are always chances that you will face hacks and other online interruptions. It was just the other day when I received a message on my gmail account, mentioning that someone from Germany had tried to access my gmail account which was rightly prevented by Google, based on their intricate security procedures. I had a good internet security software that protects me against virus and other malware. So, how did someone try to get into my system? The possibilities are various. But, what I will focus today are the tips that will help you stay safe online. Follow them and you will surely know how to avoid getting hacked online.
- Stay updated with scams
The best way to secure yourself is by increasing your knowledge about the recent online scams. Read articles, blogs, news and any other source that keeps you updated with the recent online scams. Once you know about them, you automatically try to avoid using the doubtful webpages.
- Go steady and think before you click
Pop-ups and messages are the most irritating things that disturb you while you are surfing. And so, we just click and click and click to close the messages without thinking. This is how we accidentally enter into the wrong websites and give hackers a chance to get into our system. You will also see certain malware downloads that look suspicious. Emails, for instance are the most common way to get you attracted to certain corrupting websites.
- Phony websites
Have you come across websites with similar addresses? Well, I have and trust me they can be really confusing at times. They have spelling differences, bad grammar or also low image resolution. These replicate sites ask you for personal details and once you provide them your information, they use the details for all the wrong purposes. For instance, a fake social media id, etc. So, make sure that you check the link carefully.
- Shop with safety
When you are hopping online, check if they have the “https” along with a padlock icon located either to the left or the right of the URL. Remember to protect your credit card details while shopping. There are chances that the fraudulent websites use your details and use them to rob your off your money.
- Choose smart passwords
Smart passwords are what you really need today. Not your regular birthdates, names of your children or your love, etc. They are very predictable. Make sure you choose something very smart, such as “Chicken&#pop143”. Also, make sure that you keep changing your accounts, especially for the most critical accounts.
- Guard your details
Keep all your personal details safe in your computer and smartphone. Keep a backup so that when your laptop or mobile is lost, you don’t have to worry about the details.
- Wi-fi Connectivity
If you have a wi-fi connectivity, make sure it is secured with a proper password. Also remember that not many people know about your password.
- Install the Firewall
For cyber attackers, Firewall is the best defense. Install it in your computer or laptop and see your protection level increase.
- Use your common sense
Before you choose to surf, make sure you don’t get carried away by the things you see on the web. Always think, consider and only then surf what you want. Do, routine scans and keep your computer or laptop safe.
- Avoid giving personal details
Whenever you are surfing online, make sure that you avoid giving all your personal details. For instance, avoid giving your address, your phone details or the credit card details, unless it is a website that is completely secured.
