ROAD SAFETY ESSENTIALS : AS LIFE IS PRECIOUS

Road accidents take away many innocent lives every day due negligence. If only we all can follow certain road safety norms and rules, such accidents can come down considerably.

Mentioned are some road-safety tips that all of us should follow and educate others about too.

MOBILE PHONE USAGE

Never use your mobile phone while driving. Even if you have a hands-free device or a Bluetooth speaker; talking on the phone can distract you and divert your attention and in turn cause an accident.

PUT THAT SEAT BELT ON 

Seat belts have been designed for your safety so your better buckle up when inside the vehicle. This is for all the passengers in the car whether in front or at the back 

DRIVING UNDER THE ‘INFLUENCE’

Alcohol is a big no if you are planning to drive. Usually road accidents occur due to drunk driving. Drunk drivers not only risk their lives but also of those on the road. Any amount of hard drinks should be avoided if one plans to be on the driver’s seat.

RASH DRIVING

You are no Michael Schumacher and the roads are not racing tracks so please keep the speed in limits. Avoid showing off your speed on the busy road to avoid any fatal injuries.

CHILD SAFETY

Children are impulsive so extra care must be taken for their safety especially while in the vehicle, crossing the road near the school or elsewhere. Install the necessity safety gadgets in school buses like cctv’s , gprs, proper door locks etc. Car seat for smaller children and seat belts are must for all kids. Install child safety locks in your car.

PEDESTRIAN SAFETY

We need be careful while walking on the road too and follow the norms. Wait for the traffic to stop before crossing the road. Try and use the zebra crossing if possible. Help fellow commuters to cross the road safely. If possible, wear relective clothing or shoes at night so that you can be seen easily by vehicles

TAKE A BREAK

If you are tired while driving or feel sleepy it is essential to pull-over and take a break. Almost 10% of the road accidents occur due the driver falling asleep. So why risk it all? Take a quick nap and ensure a safe drive. Nothing is more important than your safety. 

KEEP DISTANCE

It is always advised to keep some gap from the vehicle in front of you. This is to avoid any crash or accident if the vehicle in front of your brakes suddenly.

USE THE MIRRORS FOR SAFETY

The rear-view and side-view mirrors have been designed for safety so use them well. They help you observe and anticipate the other vehicles and people on the road and drive safely

NEVER JUMP THE SIGNAL

As mentioned before, nothing is more important than safety and everyone needs to understand this. Jumping a red light always puts your life and the life of others at risk , so why do it ?

OVERTAKE THE RIGHT WAY

If you are in a hurry or the one in front of your vehicle is driving very slowly, then you may overtake. However, always remember that you should overtake from the right side and never from the left.

CHECK YOUR VEHICLE

Regular maintenance of your vehicle is important for total road safety as a sudden break-down may cause an accident. Get your vehicle serviced from authorised service stations so that the quality is not compromised

WEAR THAT HELMET

2-wheeler safety is equally important. Whether you are riding a bike, a scooter or a bicycle you need to wear the helmet. The pillion rider should also be safe-guarded with the helmet. It is good idea to affix reflectors on your vehicles for added protection at night.

REPORT AND STOP BAD DRIVERS

If you happen to see irresponsible drivers or are in a cab that is being driven recklessly, stop and report it immediately. You can’t allow them to put the lives of others at stake.

Congratulations for the new car or bike ! But please acquaint yourself with controls of your vehicle before driving. Practice in your locality before hitting the busy road and also drive only when you have a valid driver’s licence
